COMPREHENSION.
Just imagine how the world would have been if there had been no inventions. Boring, uncivilized, backward, not worth living….It cannot be denied that inventing new things often contributes to saving ourselves a great deal of trouble. Indeed, without these modern inventions our lives would be much harder. The most praiseworthy inventions which help us have it over and done with lots of domestic chores as soon as possible. Thanks to such inventions we are no longer compelled to waste our time on such boring things as can be devoted to leisure activities or, more generally speaking, we really enjoy doing like watching TV, playing games, going to the movies etc…. So it can be said that some modern inventions are very useful so far as they enable us to save time. The mobile phone for example.
But on the other hand, too many things are invented these days, some of which are mere gadgets, obviously. The purpose of such inventions is not to save anybody trouble, to make our lives easier, but to try and create a need among consumers thus, in order to keep up with time, we will be tempted to purchase these new things, just because we are made to feel that they might be useful or, even worse, just because they are fashionable. Who hasn’t got at home things he or she once bought and never used ?
As a conclusion, we might say that there are two kinds of inventions: those which are really synonymous with progress and save time and trouble on the one hand and those which are a result of the consumer society and which appeal to man’s futility and lack of wisdom on the other hand.
