THE STORY OF TWO FRIENDS
Mbi and Anye were two students in the same school but with different status and ambitions. From primary to secondary school, both of them were remarkable students. They scored good marks at school and were very respectful. In fact, they were perfect students.
Mbi’s father was a trader while Anye’s father was a farmer. As Mbi’s father’s business flourished, his family became richer and richer. On the other hand, Anye’s family continued to work harder on the farm in order to clothe and send their children to school. Life became more difficult for them because their crops did not produce abundantly and sales were not good at all.
One morning, Mbi called his friend Anye and expressed his intention to stop school. “My father is rich. I am an oly child. Why should I continue to border about school?” He burst out, “Eh my friend. You are making a terrible mistake. Your father’s wealth is not yours.
Even if it were, would you not be happy to create your own wealth? What if your dad did not exist?” “If I were you, I would not abandon school. Rather, I would use the knowledge acquired from school to make my father’s business flourish even more”. Anye told him.
After this discussion Mbi did not change his mind. He stopped going to school, joint his father and started trading with him. Soon he became rich. After work, he spent all his money drinking alcohol and going to night clubs with his other “friends”. He smoked at least a packet of cigarettes a day and he became very popular too. “Life is sweet”, he would say.
In the meantime, Anye continued going to school until he obtained a doctorate degree in mathematics and became a university lecturer. His parents were the happiest people in the world because of their son’s achievements. The whole family moved from rags to riches. On the other hand, Mbi is suffering from cancer and his father’s business had gone bankcrupt. All his friends have abandoned him.
